Russ graduated the HVAC program at ITT Tech in 1978. Following graduation, Russ spent four years working as a Service Technician and Installer before moving into a Service Manager position with a HVAC company in Dallas, TX. In 1989, Russ accepted a position as Operations Manager with a large HVAC company that relocated him to Columbus, OH. Nearly four years later, Russ decided to follow his dream of starting his own business and, in 1992, Best Service Heating & Cooling, Inc was born!

“I have carried a little marble with an inscription on it in my pocket every day for over 30 years. The inscription sums up how I try to live and operate my business every day. Most people refer to this as the Golden Rule.

As most people know, dealing with people (the public) can be challenging, at times. Over the years starting and building a business, dealing with the public, and adding employees into the mix has offered many opportunities to react and make decisions with my head and not my heart. On more than one occasion, that little marble in my pocket has reminded me to react with my heart as well. Over the last forty years in the HVAC industry, I have realized my best decisions have been a compromise between my head and heart knowledge.

“It is my personal belief that it is never a wrong decision to put someone else’s feelings or needs above my own, even in business. Sometimes, it’s just the right thing to do.”

Cookie was inducted into the HVAC business by her husband, Russ. Her background is in Office Management, Accounting, and people. She was born a “Buckeye” and was raised in Grove City, Ohio. Cookie was recruited from a top 3 accounting firm to work in a large HVAC company where she met, and later married, Russ. After realizing the gifts that Russ possessed in the HVAC industry, she encouraged Russ to start his own business.

It was faith in God and total belief in her husband’s abilities that has seen them through over 25 years of owning and operating their own company.

“I have been around a lot of people in the Heating and Cooling business and have never seen anyone with more knowledge or passion about the HVAC industry than Russ. I have never met anyone that can do sales, service, and installation with the expertise that he can. Russ is literally an HVAC guru!”Cookie is one of the few licensed females in the HVAC industry, simply because Russ prompted her to try. He is always encouraging those around him to improve themselves.“Customer SERVICE is not a job, it’s everybody doing their BEST.”

People ask me how I can work all day with my husband then go home with him at night and get along as well as we do. I say, “It’s easy when you work and live with your best friend.”
